Mystery Writers of Japan (MWJ) was founded in 1947 by EDOGAWA Rampo. "Mystery Writers of Japan" (or "Mystery Writers of Japan, Inc.") is the official English appellation of the Japanese mystery writers association. In the early 1950s EDOGAWA Rampo exchanged letters with the members of the Mystery Writers of America, including Ellery Queen, and then he used the English appellation "Mystery Writers of Japan" in his letters. It became official in 1954.
